The DeLong Co., Inc. is honored to have been selected as a recipient of a United States Department of Agriculture Fertilizer Production Expansion grant. Last week the department announced $30 million in grants through seven awards under round one of the program, which aims to help U.S. farmers increase independent, domestic fertilizer production.
In Wisconsin, The DeLong Co., Inc. was one of two grant recipients announced. The DeLong project will use the Fertilizer Production Expansion Program grant to replace an existing fertilizer facility with a modern facility. This new facility will have more than four times the volume processing capabilities, the ability to custom blend fertilizer blends by the field and produce positive environmental impacts for all stakeholders.
“The funds will be utilized at our Elkhorn, WI location to construct new dry and liquid fertilizer blending facilities,” said Jordan DeLong, agronomy division manager of The DeLong Co., Inc. “This program is exciting because it will create significant efficiencies for local growers. In addition to the expanded volume and customization options it will provide, it will also allow for 24-hour access for growers. This will provide greater opportunities for growers with busy schedules to get the custom blends they need for their fields.”
The DeLong Elkhorn facility is managed by Ben DeLong. Both Ben and Jordan are part of the fifth generation of DeLong family members to work at the company. Serving as project manager of the Elkhorn expansion is Aaron Cole, agronomy operations manager of The DeLong Co., Inc.
Construction is slated to begin in late summer or early fall of 2023. For more information on the project, please contact Jordan DeLong at jgdelong@delongcompany.com or 1-800-356-0784.
