Market Headlines:

US and Iran may resume peace talks:

Over the weekend, the two parties failed to reach an agreement, remaining far apart on key details. Following US representatives departing Pakistan without a deal, President Trump announced that the US Navy will begin blockading the Strait of Hormuz. US forces will not impede navigation for vessels transiting to or from non-Iranian ports but will block all traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports.

Despite the blockade, negotiators from both countries may return to Pakistan at the end of the week to resume discussions. President Trump said Iran reached out Monday expressing interest in reaching a deal. He added that he would not accept any agreement permitting Iran to possess a nuclear weapon.

The Trump Administration is seeking input from farmers for ongoing Justice Department probe into high fertilizer costs:

The Justice Department is currently investigating whether fertilizer producers colluded to raise prices. Producers have faced scrutiny given the limited number of major industry players and the fact that prices never returned to pre-Russian invasion of Ukraine levels.

USDA Deputy Secretary Stephen Vaden said farmers hold valuable information to support the investigation. Speaking at the North American Agricultural Journalists’ annual conference, Vaden stated: “We need farmers to help provide us with that information on a confidential basis, so that that can help inform the investigations that are ongoing.”
